My friend and I went Saturday with Todd on Lake Eufaula. Light went. Muddy water with WT in the high 50’s at the mouth of the creek we fished. Caught 47. 17 of them were 1.5 pounds to 1.8. His Huckabee carbon fiber rods are some of the finest I have ever fished. Tons of back bone making it easy to swing them in and get the jigs right back in the water. We used his Meat Dragga (10′) and Pulling rods (11′). Very sensitive.
I believe some guys just have IT… whatever IT is. You know when you’re fishing side by side with somebody that there is just something that the gifted fishermen feel on their line. Some guys just have the touch, or 6th sense, or whatever you want to call it. Nevertheless, we got schooled. If you want to watch a Master, book a trip with him. I guarantee you will have a good time.
He advises winter anglers to target crappie in creeks, where the fish stage before moving toward spawning areas, and noting that when you catch two consecutive days of sunshine with temperatures in the high 40s, he adds, you can bet that the next day will be a good day to go after crappie.
Huckabee advises anglers to focus on the middle part of the water column since crappie are rarely located on the bottom of the lake. He also noted that the bigger crappie will be at the top of the other crappie. These are just a couple suggestions from Huckabee for catching crappie; however the best advice was that crappie can be caught all year long even in the winter months. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and go crappie fishing.
